SUMMARY:Lessons from the Stage with Darci Lang\, HoF
DESCRIPTION:Join CAPS Prairie Shield and Darci Lang\, HoF VIRTUALLY as she opens the curtain on her 32-year speaking journey!\n\n\nSharing 90% and 10% lessons from the stage. \nFor more than three decades\, Darci Lang has inspired audiences across Canada with her authentic presence\, memorable stories\, and practical wisdom. As a Hall of Fame Speaker \, Darci has built a career not only on delivering powerful keynotes and workshops but also on consistently refining her craft\, adapting to change\, and finding new ways to connect with her audiences. \nIn this special session for the Canadian Association of Professional Speakers\, Darci will open the curtain on her 32-year speaking journey. With candor and warmth\, she will share the hard-won lessons that have shaped her as a communicator and a business owner. Darci has learned what it takes to create a sustainable and fulfilling career in the speaking industry. Participants will walk away with insights that are both practical and personal. \nWhether you are new to the speaking world or a seasoned professional\, this session promises to offer wisdom\, encouragement\, and inspiration. Join us for an evening with one of Canada’s most respected voices in our industry. \n\n\n\nAbout Darci Lang\, HoF \nDarci knows better than most that life is what you make it—because she’s built hers from the ground up. What she lives today is the polar opposite of what she once imagined\, and the challenges she’s faced—the “10% moments”—have shaped not only her story but her message. \nFor over 30 years\, Darci has been helping people see life through a different lens. Her 90% philosophy—focus on what you can control and let go of the rest—has resonated with audiences across industries and inspired a four-book series that continues to change lives. Her bestselling book Focus on the 90% sparked a movement that reminds us that mindset is the foundation for everything we build\, from leadership to culture to purpose. \nAs a speaker\, Darci embodies her message. With a “my life is my message” approach\, she blends hard-earned wisdom from her early entrepreneurial success—launching three businesses by age 24—with humor\, authenticity\, and heart. She doesn’t just motivate; she transforms perspective. \nA member of the Canadian Association of Professional Speakers Hall of Fame\, Darci is as grounded as she is inspiring. Offstage\, she’s at home in Saskatchewan with her husband\, Darren\, where she recharges with family\, rescue pets\, and a steady stream of renovation projects.

SUMMARY:CAPS National President\, Mark Black\, CSP visits CAPS Atlantic!
DESCRIPTION:More details to come!\n\n\nAre you ready to elevate your brand and increase your perceived value n the marketplace? Looking for a way to genuinely sell your services while delivering real value to your prospects? \n \nHost Your Own Event! \n \nIn 2017\, Mark set a goal: to create an event in his hometown that would bring top quality training and speaker to the Maritimes. The added bonus? He’d have one day on the calendar each year where he could generate substantial revenue without leaving home. This idea led to the creation of Level Up\, a one-day personal development conference. Nine editions later\, the conference has grown into a reliable revenue stream and a powerful platform for promoting coaching services. \n \nThis presentation will show you how simple it can be to launch your own event. Discover how to minimize risk and upfront costs while maximizing revenue. You’ll also learn to leverage a signature event to build your brand as a recognized expert and speaker. \n \nTakeaways: \n*Creating an event theme and ROI that is compelling \n*How to put butts in seats \n*How to secure speakers and sponsors for your event \n*3 Mistakes to avoid \n \nAbout Mark Black\, CSP \n \nMark Black is a Heart and Double-Lung Transplant Recipient – turned – 4- Time \nMarathon Runner. \n \nA resilience expert\, coach\, and author\, Mark helps people break through limitations \nand develop resilience so they can thrive through challenge and change. \n \nMark doesn’t just teach resilience\, he embodies it. Born with a life-threatening heart \ndefect\, Mark underwent two open-heart surgeries before the age of one. He battled \nhis condition and its limitations for twenty-two years until he was forced to deal with \nthe biggest obstacle of his young life. His doctor informed him that his heart was \nfailing\, and without a rare and dangerous heart and double-lung transplant\, he would \nnot see his 25th birthday. \n \nIn 2002\, Mark was fortunate that a suitable donor was found. He not only survived \nthe surgery\, but less than 3 years later\, Mark became the only man in history to \nrun a marathon with someone else’s heart and lungs. Then he did it three more \ntimes. \n \nMark is a Certified Speaking Professional\, a designation held by less than 1500 \nspeakers in the world. He has inspired more than 175\,000 people in more than \n750 presentations and has worked with global brands including ExxonMobil and \nMercedes Benz\, as well as many national and regional associations. \n \nMark lives in Moncton\, New Brunswick\, Canada where he spends as much time as \npossible with the most important people in his life; his wife Marise and their three \nchildren; Emma\, Matteo\, and Caleb. \n \nFor more information about how Mark can help you\, go to: www.markblack.ca

SUMMARY:How to Land a TEDx Talk & Spread Your Message to Millions In As Little As 30 Days...
DESCRIPTION:Do you know what separates the top 1% of entrepreneurs\, coaches\, and experts in the industry… from everyone else? \nAuthority.  \nAnd there is no quicker way to establish authority and credibility than to be seen speaking from the stage. \n(I’ve been speaking for years\, and it has been one of the most impactful things I’ve done to grow my coaching practice.) \nSo why don’t more people get on stages and start speaking? \nFrankly… most people don’t know how. \nAnd because I know just how powerful speaking can be to your career\, I went out in search of someone who is one of the best in the world at helping coaches and purpose-driven entrepreneurs take their expertise\, craft it into a compelling message\, and share it on stages. \n \nAnd it just so happens that this person is not only an expert at helping people turn their expertise into compelling\, viral-worthy talks… \nBut he and his team also help people land speeches on one of the most influential and widely-viewed stages in the world… TEDx. \nHis name is Taylor Conroy\, and his company Thought Leader has helped over 650 clients (and counting!) land TEDx talks and spread their message to millions of people. \n(In fact\, they guarantee it). \nHe’s broken this process down into a science (Taylor himself has spoken at TEDx 4 times)\, and I’ve convinced him to share his entire process with us LIVE on November 20th\, 2025\, at 7:00 PM ET. \nIf you’ve ever wanted to turn your expertise into a ready-to-share message from stages… \nOr you’ve ever wondered what it actually takes to be invited to speak at a TEDx stage… \nThis webinar is for you. \n \nQuestionnaire —  https://leadr.co/caps \nWe’re excited to learn more about you and your goals. Completing this short questionnaire helps us understand your objectives so we can ensure our time together is valuable and focused on you. \n  \nAbout Taylor Conroy \nTaylor Conroy is a meditating surfer obsessed with building businesses that make change. His first social enterprise\, Change Heroes\, mobilized people in 80 countries to fund and build  \n400 schools\, water projects\, libraries\, girls scholarships\, anti-sex trafficking work\, and more for 200\,000 people around the world. \nHe has lectured at Harvard\, Princeton\, NYU\, Cornell\, and the United Nations on the subject of social enterprise (How to make money while making profound impact in the world)\, and regularly presents to corporate audiences like Disney\, Pfizer\, Lululemon\, KPMG\, and Morgan Stanley\, as well as social good events with audiences of 10\,000+. \nTaylor has been a professional firefighter\, a real estate entrepreneur\, and a bodybuilder; he has studied with Zen monks in Japan\, run with the bulls in Spain\, has explored every continent on earth including Antarctica\, has surfed the longest wave in the world in Peru\, and has filmed mini-documentaries in the red light district of Cambodia to combat sex trafficking\, the Ecuadorian Amazon to catalyze microfinance\, and the jungles of Uganda as an activist for human rights. \nTaylor is the co-founder of Thought-Leader\, where he works with entrepreneurs\, professionals\, and change-makers to get their message out into the world by leveraging the power of speaking from the world’s biggest stages like TEDx. He has spoken on the TEDx stage 4 times and to date has helped over 550 people land TEDx talks of their own. \n  \n\n

Born with a life-threatening heart defect\, Mark underwent two open-heart surgeries before the age of one. He battled his condition and its limitations for twenty-two years until he was forced to deal with the biggest obstacle of his young life. His doctor informed him that his heart was failing\, and without a rare and dangerous heart and double-lung transplant\, he would not see his 25th birthday. \nIn 2002\, Mark was fortunate that a suitable donor was found. He not only survived the surgery\, but less than 3 years later\, Mark became the only man in history to run a marathon with someone else’s heart and lungs. Then he did it three more times. \nMark is a Certified Speaking Professional\, a designation held by less than 1500 speakers in the world. He has inspired more than 175\,000 people in more than 850 presentations\, and has worked with global brands including ExxonMobil and Mercedes Benz\, as well as many national and regional associations. \nMark lives in Moncton\, New Brunswick\, Canada where he spends as much time as possible with the most important people in his life; his wife Marise and their three children; Emma\, Matteo\, and Caleb.

SUMMARY:Protecting Your Livelihood: Intellectual Property Law for Professional Speakers
DESCRIPTION:This month on CAPS Behind the Mic\, CAPS Member Norm Bowley and Marcus Gallie will take us through a high-level overview of intellectual property and related law\, then a drill-down into the major concerns of speakers in terms of protecting their copyright and trademarks\, and avoiding infringement on the property of others. We will conduct a tour d’horizon of the issues and provide practical insights both for protection and avoidance of infringing the rights of others. A high-level overview of intellectual property and related law\, then a drill-down into the major concerns of speakers in terms of protecting their copyright and trademarks\, and avoiding infringement on the rights of others. CAPS member Norm Bowley and former colleague IP specialist Marcus Gallie will conduct a tour d’horizon of the issues and provide practical insights both for protection and avoidance of infringing the rights of others. Q&A. \n \n  \n\n\n\n\nNorman Bowley \nNorm Bowley is a CAPS member who teaches primarily on professional excellence and communication. Norm practiced law in Ottawa from 1981 to 2018\, and before that was a teacher. Norm earned his JD (Cum Laude) from the University of Ottawa in 1979 and his Master of Laws from York University. Along the way he acquired his Trademark Agent designation\, as well as that of the Trust and Estate Professional. Norm does not profess to have the IP depth of Marcus\, but along his journey assisted in drafting some really interesting patents and litigated some pretty wild patent and copyright infringement cases\, including one which tangentially involved chasing cows through Saskatchewan mud.\n\n\n\nMarcus Gallie \nMarcus Gallie is an intellectual property lawyer practising in Ottawa. Called to the Bar in 1989\, he was also registered as a Patent Agent and as a Trademark Agent in 1992. He holds both an LLB and a Master of Law.  Prior to his legal career\, Marc obtained a B.Sc and an M.Sc. in the Environmental Science area. \nSince 2008\, he has been the Editor in Chief of the Canadian Patent Reporter\, roughly the legal equivalent of having your HoF and CSP. A member of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada and the International Trademark Association\, he has also served on the Patent Agents Examination Board. He is considered one of the foremost IP lawyers in Canada and has extensively presented nationally and internationally. \nMarc was a Partner for over 20 years in one of Canada’s oldest Intellectual Property Practices until its acquisition by a publicly traded company in 2023.  He is now on gardening leave until he resumes practice in early spring.\n\n\n\n  \n  \n\n

SUMMARY:The Successful Book Project - A Virtual Event!
DESCRIPTION:The Successful Book Project: A Play in Three Acts \nAct One – Imagination to Manuscript \nAct Two – Editing\, Designing\, Delivery \nAct Three – Releasing to the World \nActing roles to be filled: the Publisher\, the Editor\, the Author \nMost professional speakers understand the value of a well-written\, well-edited\, well-designed book as a support to their overall business. However\, bringing out a meaningful\, marketable\, readable book is not as easy as some would make it seem. \nTo ensure you deliver on a standing ovation\, it is essential to understand not only the roles involved in the play but the relationships between each character. Unlike a play upon a stage\, there is blurring between the ending of one act and the beginning of the next\, but all three acts of the play must be included in a successful book project. \nWhether you play the role of author\, publisher\, or editor (or all three)\, each role demands a specific mindset and completion of deliverables. \nIn this keynote\, learn the essentials of creating a meaningful\, marketable\, readable book that will support your speaking and your overall business model. \nDuring her 30-year career as a professional speaker on the topics of leadership and diversity\, Jeanne Martinson wrote more than a dozen books. In the past six years\, as Publisher of Wood Dragon Books\, she has assisted more than 45 authors bring over 70 books to the market. See more about her at www.wooddragonbooks.com

SUMMARY:Behind The Mic - Winning Corporate Business
DESCRIPTION:Winning corporate business requires understanding how leaders think\, what challenges they face\, and where external partners can add value. \nIn this one-hour virtual session\, hosts Rob Rudy and Ross Saunders sit down with Paul Bognar for a live Q&A on leading and growing a national service business. Paul will briefly share his leadership context\, followed by a focused discussion on the real pressures companies face today. \nThe conversation will explore issues such as managing a people-driven operation with high turnover\, maintaining service consistency across multiple locations\, responding to instant customer feedback\, competing in crowded markets\, and navigating rising costs and uncertainty. It will also look at how organizations continue to evolve as customer behaviour shifts. \nEach challenge will be examined through a practical lens. Where is the opportunity for a speaker\, trainer\, or advisor to help? What problems are worth solving? What topics matter? How do you approach a company like this and get in front of decision-makers \nThe session is primarily Q&A\, with Rob and Ross leading the discussion and participants contributing questions through the chat. The goal is to help members connect real business challenges to clear opportunities for their work. \nParticipants will leave with a sharper view on how to position themselves\, how to align their expertise to actual needs\, and how to engage corporate clients in a way that leads to meaningful work. \n \n  \n\n\n\n\nPaul Bognar \nPaul J.
