Living the Spirit of CAPS--Supporting Disaster Relief in Haiti

Living the Spirit of CAPS--Supporting Disaster Relief in Haiti

At our CAPS National Board meeting in Calgary last month, Bob Parker talked about the Spirit of CAPS being one of the main reasons he continues to participate in (and contribute to) CAPS.  I'm not sure there is a crisp definition of the Spirit of CAPS; however, I love the feel of the phrase. As CAPS members, we have an immediate opportunity to show some of that spirit in supporting the much needed relief efforts that are going full speed ahead in Haiti.

The Government of Canada has offered to match donations made by Canadians for disaster relief, up to $50 million (for a combined contribution of $100 million) for donations made between now and February 12, 2010.  I think it would be a wonderful (and much appreciated) contribution if our members would be willing contribute at least 5% of their next paid engagement to one of the approved charities working on disaster relief.  Actually, every single dollar is valued--no contribution is too small to be appreciated.  Regardless of whether or not contributions are earmarked "CAPS", I think it is an opportunity for each of us to step up and stand out.

The focus of CAPS is to help out members grow their speaking business.  If we are successful at that, then presumably it enhances our ability to do good in the world, too.  Are there other worthy causes we could put some effort into?  Of course, and we already do.  But this one seems like a huge and immediate need where we can contribute in a significant way. I know there have already been some appeals made at several regular Chapter meetings--great work!

If you choose to donate, please make your donation count!
