President's Message

 “Why should I join CAPS?”
 
I asked myself that question six years ago, when someone invited me to a meeting. Quite frankly, I couldn’t understand why I should join.  After all, I was a professional speaker. Never mind that I wasn’t making a lot of money, I was on the circuit.  So what, I wondered, could CAPS possibly offer me?
 
Today, I can’t believe I ever asked that question. I quickly discovered CAPS is an organization that offers you proven advice from the best professional speakers on how to improve your business. As a CAPS member, you’re connected to a group of people who truly get what you do! A group of people who don’t just talk about their expertise, but also share it with you. I know, from talking to many CAPS members over the years that they’ve made that same discovery.
 
This year promises to be another one of discovery for us all.  Peri Shawn has chosen “Quantum Journey” as our theme. It’s a reminder to us that it’s the small things we do that often have big results.  CAPS is unique in that it provides us with both the big and small. This organization, and its members, helps you fine tune the small things that get in the way of your brilliance, and take on big things, like improving your website, polishing your presentation, or building a sales strategy. These are the fundamental things that help you move forward so you realize your dreams - whatever they may be.   
 
This is an organization for people who have a particular expertise that audiences around the world need and want to hear. It’s an organization of people who possess experience and insights that have great value.  Essentially, this is an organization for experts who speak professionally, whether as a coach, a presenter at events or as a facilitator/trainer, and who make a difference when they speak.
 
I can say, based on my experience, that there isn’t another organization like this that so openly shares skills and abilities. You receive magazines and CDs that target key knowledge and skills you need to know to succeed as a professional speaker. You have access to monthly meetings where you can learn, share and network. You are connected to people who not only understand what you do, but ask “How can I help you in your business?” Honestly, CAPS members really want you to succeed!
 
When I joined six years ago, CAPS Halifax had barely enough members to hold a quorum. Now we are Canada’s 4th largest CAPS chapter. We achieved this because dedicated people had a vision and a belief that we had something special to share.
 
I invite you to come to one of our monthly meetings, held on the fourth Thursday of each month, and see for yourself. The first meeting is on me.  All you have to do is say, “Lea invited me,” when you arrive.  Discover, as I did, what we have to offer, become a member, and make friends with the industry experts who will help you grow your business.
